I am personable, highly skilled, and share my knowledge in a direct approach. I have over 22 years of counseling experience and have an inviting, convenient, and comfortable office in Shingle Springs, 6 miles south of Hwy 50.
As an interactive, solution-focused therapist, I work with people who want to change and report doing so after working with me. My approach provides support, direct feedback, insight, and encouragement.. My areas of expertise are couples' counseling, mood disorders (depression/anxiety/bi-polar), individuals recovering from child abuse - addiction - domestic violence - other relationship issues. As a small business owner and trained coach, I also enjoy working with entrepeneurs and small business owners who want to improve their bottom line.
In addition to being a successful therapist, I have presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of Self Esteem, Suicide Prevention, Child Abuse, Bullying, and Children of Alcoholics.
I come from a place of adversity that has been turned into opportunity, where victimization was turned into survivor and, ultimately, thriver. I understand personally the struggles created in life and how to turn them into success. I support my clients as they experience how fulfilling their own lives can be whiling moving along their own road to well being.
I have been married over 25 years and know first hand the challenges involved in maintaining a long-term relationship. As a Gottman Institute Level Two trained couples' therapist, I use written and oral diagnostics in order to determine what your relationship requires: tune up, major work, overhaul, or it's on the way to the junkyard. With sessions geared toward awareness, insight, effective communication, appreciation, and learning other helpful skills, marriages get back on their roads to well being.
You can SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE!
Having interned at a Marine Corps base for over two years, I learned to work with mandated clients and helped them to understand that therapy is not a "bad" thing - NOT doing something about an issue is what can lead to further "bad" experiences. Both men and women come into my practice because I use a straight-forward approach with firmness, fairness, and humor that helps people CHANGE.
My years as a public school teacher and middle-school/high school counselor helps me help children and teens, plus their parents. In addition, I worked with Hospice, providing services to children and teens experiencing loss and grief. I thoroughly enjoy working with pre-teens and teens, plus their parents, as helping families change is one of my passions.
